Backup Plus 7.6.2

Backup Plus allows you to easily and quickly back up all your important data. Features include the ability to back up to just about any device, including floppy disk, Zip drive, Jaz drive, and even formatted CD-RW/DVD-RW discs. FTP backup also is supported. Backup Plus comes with the Timed Backups Manager for scheduling hands-free backups, and the Explorer-like Restore Manager for easy restoration from a single file to a complete backup.

For backing up important documents, Backup Plus hits all the right points, though it suffers from a few quirks. It includes a wizard to get you started, along with a nice help file, but more experienced users can just hit the New button to create a backup job. The interface looks good and shows all the details of backup jobs, but you can only view one backup job at a time. Selecting files for backup jobs is easy, and we especially like the Add Special feature, which lets you select standard folders, such as Favorites and Cookies. Backup Plus includes important features, such as incremental backups, compression, password protection, and FTP capabilities, but it can't natively write to CD-RW. It also includes a scheduler so you can set jobs to run every hour, day, or month, but it lacks some flexibility, not letting you exclude particular days. Our final criticism concerns the Restore Manager and its separation of folders and files: it's great for selectively restoring documents, but it needs a quick-restore function that will make sure every file in an archive gets restored. Backup Plus works fine for anyone needing a daily or weekly archive utility, but some quirks of the program may prove limiting.
